the wind-cut shoulder

The side rise continues onto a broader shoulder where the turf thins further between dark flat stones. Wind crosses here from two directions, one carrying the colder inland air and the other a faint salt trace that was not noticeable below. The valley stream is still visible behind in pieces, but the long turf itself begins to drop out of sight. Ahead, the shoulder bends around a low stony swell. No sea is visible yet, though the air suggests the coast may not be as completely hidden from this branch.
