The shallow banks become less distinct as the ground flattens. Water spreads into two narrow side channels around low hummocks of dark soil and rejoins a few strides later. The footing beside it grows softer, though still firm enough to walk without sinking. Ahead, the land looks broader and lower, with more reflective patches between the vegetation.
