The route reaches exposed ice at close range without requiring a step onto it. Its surface is dull blue-grey beneath a skin of grit, with shallow melt grooves and embedded dark fragments. Loose stones lie on the ice rather than merely beside it. The exposed section can be followed upslope until it disappears behind a low rock rib, continuous with the pale tongue seen from the valley.
