the darker rise

The ground climbs from the shallow saddle onto a darker basalt rise, steeper than the last shoulder but still walkable without using hands. The surface is rougher here, broken into angular plates with thin seams of soil and a few low mats of vegetation holding close to the stone. Near the top the wind strengthens and the wet flats drop out of direct view behind the saddle.
